It turns out you can create and post an online obituary directly to the site using ObitWriter, a free tool that provides an easy-to-use form to help create a custom obituary in minutes. All obituaries created and posted to the site with ObitWriter include a permanent Guest Book. To explore this option, visit: https://www.legacy.com/obitwriter/.
All that was needed was to enter a couple of "required fields" in the opening page, and then edit their bot-generated text by substituting our own. We even got to add the photograph!
It's not likely to take any traffic away from our blog, only (perhaps) add a couple of visits.
